Official: RUSAL asks ministry to cancel export duties on aluminum

MOSCOW, Dec 18 (PRIME) -- Russian aluminum giant UC RUSAL has asked the Industry and Trade Ministry to cancel the export duties on aluminum, including the duties on products of the company’s Taishet and Boguchansk smelters, the ministry said in a statement on Monday quoting State Secretary and Deputy Minister Viktor Yevtukhov.

“RUSAL has put forward a request to cancel the export duties, including the duties on the products of two aluminum smelters – Taishet and Boguchansk. The Industry and Trade Ministry of Russia is working out the reasonability of this support measure,” Yevtukhov said as quoted by the ministry.

The government introduced the flexible export duties tied to the ruble rate on a wide range of goods from October 1 until the end of 2024. Depending on the ruble rate, the duties for the majority of goods range between 4% and 7%. If the ruble falls below 80 rubles per U.S. dollar, the duties amount to zero.
